Abstract
Gender equality remains a critical issue in the field of education, including within Islamic Religious Education (IRE). This paper aims to examine the relationship between IRE and the concept of gender in Islam, as well as to evaluate the extent to which gender equality values have been integrated into the curriculum and teaching practices. Using a qualitative approach based on library research, the author analyzes the historical condition of women before the advent of Islam, Islamic perspectives on gender equality, and the challenges and strategies for integrating gender perspectives in IRE. The findings indicate that Islam views men and women as equal before God, with piety as the primary measure of virtue. However, the implementation of this principle in IRE still faces challenges, such as gender bias in teaching materials and a lack of gender-awareness training for educators. The paper recommends the development of a fair, inclusive, and gender-sensitive IRE curriculum and pedagogy as a reflection of Islam’s universal and compassionate values.
