Abstract
The background in this research is that the head of the madrasah encourages, pioneers and strengthens and also acts as an administrator. In other words, the madrasa head is the driver of implementing quality education management, including the quality of teachers and the quality of the learning process itself. The formulation of the research problem is to determine the strategy of madrasah heads in improving the professional competence of teachers at the Gumanti Valley Madrasah Aliyah. Then the limitations of the problem are: (1) What efforts have been made by the head of the madrasah to improve the professional competence of teachers at the Gumanti Valley Madrasah Aliyah. (2) What is the impact of the efforts made by the madrasa head in improving the professional competence of teachers at the Gumanti Valley Madrasah Aliyah. (3) What obstacles do madrasa heads face in improving the professional competence of teachers at the Gumanti Valley Madrasah Aliyah? The research method used in this research is a qualitative method, and the respondents in this research are madrasa heads, teachers and students. The techniques used in collecting data were observation, interviews and documents that support the implementation of this research. The results obtained in this research are: (1) The efforts of the madrasa head to improve the professional competence of teachers at the Gumanti Valley Madrasah Aliyah, in the form of: first, motivating teachers to be creative and innovative in using learning strategies; second, increasing teacher professional competence; third, carry out supervision; fourth, directing teachers to conduct research in learning; fifth, improving the quality of facilities and infrastructure. (2) The impact of the madrasa head's efforts, namely: teachers have implemented professional competencies. (3) Obstacles faced by madrasa heads in efforts to increase teacher competency and learning quality, namely: first, the quality of human resources which they feel still needs to be improved; secondly, the differences that exist within the students can become obstacles to the development of aspects of the students themselves; third, lack of parental awareness in motivating students' learning.
