Abstract

This article discusses the strategies employed by Islamic Religious Education (PAI) teachers in fostering attitudes of religious moderation at SMA Negeri 1 Bukittinggi, focusing on the effectiveness of the approaches used as well as the supporting and inhibiting factors in their implementation. The study is grounded in the context of the transition from the 2013 Curriculum to the Merdeka Curriculum, where although the content of religious moderation is present in the 2013 Curriculum, it is often delivered implicitly, making it difficult for students to fully comprehend. The research aims to evaluate the effectiveness of PAI teachers' strategies and to identify elements that support or hinder these efforts. A qualitative approach was used, with data collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. The findings indicate that PAI teachers employ various strategies, including direct instruction, expository teaching, contextual learning, problem-based learning, habituation of moderate values, and role modeling. Supporting factors include harmonious collaboration between PAI teachers, parents, and other subject teachers. On the other hand, challenges arise from the influence of social media and students’ environments that do not always align with the values of moderation. These findings affirm that the strategies used by PAI teachers at SMA Negeri 1 Bukittinggi are fairly effective in cultivating religious moderation, although reinforcement from multiple elements of the educational ecosystem is needed for more optimal implementation.
