Abstract
Friday prayer (Salat al-Jumu'ah) is an obligatory act of worship for Muslim men, but it is not mandated for women. This article explores the Islamic legal perspective on the obligation of Friday prayer for women, with reference to the hadith narrated by Abu Dawud and al-Hakim (Hadith No. 1067). The hadith states that Friday prayer is obligatory for every Muslim, except for four categories: slaves, women, children, and the sick. This study examines both the chain of narration (sanad) and the content (matan) of the hadith, and traces its legal implications from the perspective of Islamic jurisprudence. The findings indicate that the majority of scholars agree that women are not obligated to perform Friday prayer, but they are permitted to attend if they wish.
