Abstract

Efficient public transport fleet scheduling is a major factor in improving urban transportation services. Big cities like Medan face challenges in managing public transport fleets that often experience an imbalance between demand and vehicle availability. Inaccurate schedules and suboptimal fleet distribution can cause delays, passenger congestion, and user dissatisfaction. Therefore, this study applies the assignment method to optimize fleet distribution so that travel schedules become more timely and efficient. In this study, an analysis of travel patterns, number of passengers, and route accessibility was conducted using an optimization-based assignment method. The results of the study show that the application of this method can reduce passenger waiting time, increase vehicle occupancy rates, and optimize fleet utilization. In addition, transportation operators can more easily manage vehicle resources efficiently, so that operational costs can be reduced without reducing service quality. Thus, the assignment method can be an effective solution in improving the operational efficiency of public transportation and providing a positive impact on transportation users in Medan.
